UUID Generator
Create universally unique identifiers in bulk: version 4 UUIDs use 122 cryptographically random bits, while version 7 UUIDs start with a millisecond timestamp so they sort by creation time, which suits database keys. Format them in uppercase, without hyphens or in braces, and paste any UUID into the validator to see its version, variant and embedded time.
How to use the UUID Generator
- Choose v4 (random) or v7 (time-ordered).
- Enter how many UUIDs you need, from 1 to 1,000.
- Pick uppercase, hyphen and brace options.
- Press Generate, then copy or download the list.
- Paste a UUID in the validator to inspect it.
Features
- UUID v4 via crypto.randomUUID
- UUID v7 per RFC 9562 with monotonic ordering within a batch
- Bulk generation up to 1,000 at a time
- Uppercase, no-hyphen and {brace} formats
- Validator showing version, variant and timestamp (v1, v6, v7)
Benefits
- Get ready-made IDs for databases, tests and fixtures
- Choose sortable v7 IDs for better index performance
- Generated locally with a secure random source
Frequently asked questions
Should I use UUID v4 or v7?
Use v4 when IDs must not reveal when they were created. Use v7 for database primary keys: they sort by time, which keeps B-tree indexes compact.
Can two generated UUIDs collide?
In practice no. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits; you would need to generate billions per second for many years before a collision became likely.
Does a v7 UUID reveal information?
Yes, its first 48 bits are the creation time in milliseconds. The validator shows that time when you paste a v7 UUID.
