Frequently asked questions
How is the future value of an annuity calculated?
For an ordinary annuity FV = PMT × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i, where i is the rate per payment period and n the number of payments. For an annuity due, multiply by (1 + i).
What if payment and compounding frequencies differ?
The nominal rate is converted to an equivalent effective rate per payment period before the formula is applied.
Is the future value guaranteed?
Only if the rate is fixed and guaranteed. Results are estimates for planning and education, not financial advice.
