Frequently asked questions
What return should I use?
Use a long-term average that matches your investment mix and subtract fees. Real returns vary from year to year and can be negative.
Is the return compounded?
Yes. The annual return is converted to an equivalent rate per contribution period so that a full year compounds to exactly the rate you entered.
Does it account for inflation or taxes?
No. Subtract expected inflation from the return to see the result in today's money. Results are estimates for planning and education, not financial advice.
