Molarity Calculator

Find the concentration of a solution, the mass of solute to weigh out, the moles present or the volume needed. Type the solute formula and its molar mass is worked out for you, or enter the molar mass directly. The dilution mode solves C₁V₁ = C₂V₂ for any one unknown and tells you how much solvent to add.

How to use the Molarity Calculator

  1. Choose Molarity or Dilution.
  2. Pick what to solve for, then enter the solute formula (or a molar mass) and the known values.
  3. Select mL or L for the solution volume.
  4. Press Calculate to see the answer with each working step.

Frequently asked questions

What is molarity?

Molarity (M) is moles of solute per litre of solution: M = n ÷ V. A 1 M sodium chloride solution contains 58.44 g of NaCl in every litre of solution.

Is the volume the volume of water added?

No. Molarity uses the final volume of the whole solution. In practice you dissolve the solute and then make the solution up to the mark in a volumetric flask.

Which units does the dilution solver use?

Any consistent units. Use the same concentration unit for C₁ and C₂ and the same volume unit for V₁ and V₂, and the answer comes out in those units.
