Slug Generator

Convert a page title or phrase into a short, readable URL slug such as "best-hiking-trails-in-wales". Accented letters are converted to plain ASCII, symbols are removed and you can strip common stop words or cap the length at a whole word. Batch mode converts a whole list of titles at once and exports a CSV.

How to use the Slug Generator

  1. Type a title, or switch to batch mode and paste one title per line.
  2. Choose the separator — hyphens are recommended for SEO.
  3. Toggle lowercase, accent conversion and stop-word removal.
  4. Optionally set a maximum length.
  5. Copy the slug, or download all slugs as text or CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use hyphens or underscores in URLs?

Google recommends hyphens. It treats hyphens as word separators, while underscores can join words together.

Should I remove stop words from slugs?

It often makes slugs shorter and clearer, but keep them when removing would change the meaning, for example "to-be-or-not-to-be".

What happens to non-Latin text like Bangla or Arabic?

With accent conversion on, only Latin letters and digits are kept. Turn it off to keep letters from any script; browsers display them, though they are percent-encoded when copied.

How long should a slug be?

There is no strict limit, but short slugs of three to five meaningful words are easier to read and less likely to be truncated.
