Statistics Calculator

Paste numbers separated by commas, spaces or new lines and get a full set of descriptive statistics: count, sum, mean, median, modes, range, quartiles and IQR, sample and population variance and standard deviation, standard error, skewness and coefficient of variation. Outliers are flagged using the 1.5 × IQR rule and a histogram shows the shape of the distribution.

How to use the Statistics Calculator

  1. Paste or type your numbers; non-numeric entries are ignored and listed.
  2. Read the summary statistics as you type.
  3. Check the histogram and the sorted data.
  4. Copy the results or download them as CSV.

Frequently asked questions

How are quartiles calculated?

The sorted data is split into lower and upper halves (excluding the median when the count is odd) and Q1 and Q3 are the medians of those halves. Spreadsheet functions like QUARTILE.INC interpolate and may differ slightly.

Should I use sample or population standard deviation?

Use the sample value (divides by n − 1) when your data is a sample from a larger group, and the population value (divides by N) when you have every member of the group.

How are outliers defined?

A value is flagged if it is below Q1 − 1.5 × IQR or above Q3 + 1.5 × IQR, the rule used for box plots.
