URL Decoder

Paste an encoded URL or query string to turn %XX sequences back into readable text. The decoder can treat + as a space for form data, decode repeatedly for double-encoded strings and tells you exactly where a malformed escape or invalid UTF-8 sequence occurs. Decoded URLs are also broken down into their parts and parameters.

How to use the URL Decoder

  1. Paste the encoded text or URL.
  2. Choose whether + should become a space.
  3. Enable repeated decoding if you see %25 sequences.
  4. Copy the decoded text and review the URL breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

What does "%25" mean?

%25 is an encoded percent sign. Seeing %2520 usually means the text was encoded twice; enable repeated decoding to unwrap it.

Why do I get a "not valid UTF-8" error?

The percent sequences decode to bytes that are not valid UTF-8, often because the text was encoded in another character set or was cut in the middle of a character.

Should + always become a space?

Only in form-encoded data such as query strings submitted by HTML forms. In a URL path a + is a literal plus sign, so turn the option off there.
