Frequently asked questions
Can I download the audio as an MP3?
No. Browsers' built-in speech engines play audio directly and do not let websites save it as a file, so this tool cannot offer an audio download.
Why are the available voices different on each device?
Voices come from your browser and operating system. Installing extra language packs in Windows, macOS, Android or iOS adds more voices.
Does my text leave my device?
Voices marked "local" run on your device. Some browsers also offer online voices (labelled here) that send the text to the browser maker's speech service.
Why is "AI" in the name?
Modern operating-system voices are produced by neural speech models. The quality depends on the voices your device provides.
