PDF Compressor

Make PDFs smaller using one of two honest methods. Lossless optimise re-saves the document with compressed object streams and keeps everything intact, usually for modest savings. Strong compression renders each page as a JPEG at the DPI and quality you choose and rebuilds the PDF, which can shrink scans dramatically but makes text non-selectable.

How to use the PDF Compressor

  1. Drop the PDF you want to shrink.
  2. Choose Lossless optimise or Strong compression.
  3. For strong compression, pick a preset or set the DPI and JPEG quality.
  4. Press Compress PDF and compare the sizes.
  5. Download the smaller file, or keep the original if it did not shrink.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my text no longer selectable?

Strong compression turns every page into an image. Use Lossless optimise if you need selectable, searchable text, links or form fields.

Why did lossless mode save so little?

Lossless optimisation can only repack the file structure; it does not touch images. Already-optimised PDFs may not shrink at all.

Which DPI should I choose?

150 DPI is good for printing, around 100–110 DPI for reading on screen, and 72 DPI gives the smallest files but looks soft when zoomed.

Can it compress encrypted PDFs?

No. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked in your PDF reader first.
