Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ROI and annualised ROI?

ROI is the total return over the whole period. Annualised ROI (CAGR) converts it to an equivalent yearly rate: (return ÷ investment)^(1 ÷ years) − 1.

Should "amount returned" include my original investment?

Yes. Enter the total value you got back. If you invested 1,000 and ended with 1,500, enter 1,500 — the gain of 500 is worked out for you.

Why is the annualised figure so high for short periods?

Annualising compounds the result as if it repeated all year. A 10% gain in one month annualises to about 214%, which is rarely repeatable, so use it for comparison rather than as a forecast.

Is this financial advice?

No. The results are estimates based on the figures you enter and do not account for risk, taxes, fees or inflation.
