Cash Flow Calculator

Start from your opening cash balance and add a row for each month or period with operating, investing and financing inflows and outflows. The calculator nets each activity, rolls the closing balance into the next period and flags any period where cash goes negative. Totals and the lowest balance help you plan funding before you need it.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as operating, investing or financing?

Operating covers customer receipts and payments to suppliers, staff and for running costs. Investing covers buying or selling equipment, property and investments. Financing covers loans, repayments, owner capital and dividends.

Why enter outflows as positive numbers?

Each activity has separate inflow and outflow columns, so the calculator subtracts outflows for you. Entering a minus sign would cause double-counting, so negatives are rejected.

Is this the same as a statement of cash flows?

It uses the same three categories but is a direct forecasting tool. A formal statement of cash flows may use the indirect method and must follow accounting standards. Treat the results as planning estimates.
