Journal Entry Generator

Write general journal entries with a date, reference, narration and as many debit and credit lines as you need. Each entry is checked as you type — totals must match, lines need an account, and a line cannot carry both a debit and a credit. Balanced entries feed a ledger summary showing total debits, credits and the running balance for every account, ready to export.

How to use the Journal Entry Generator

  1. Enter your business name and currency.
  2. For each entry set the date, reference and narration.
  3. Add the debit and credit lines; the badge turns green when the entry balances.
  4. Use "Add journal entry" for the next transaction.
  5. Review the journal and ledger summary, then download CSV or PDF.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a journal entry balanced?

The total of the debit lines must equal the total of the credit lines, and there must be at least one of each.

Are account names case-sensitive in the ledger summary?

No. "Cash" and "cash" are combined into one account, so keep spelling consistent to avoid duplicates.

Why is an entry missing from the PDF?

Only balanced, complete entries are included in the PDF and ledger summary. The CSV export includes every line along with a column showing whether its entry balanced.
