Trial Balance Generator

Enter each ledger account with its code and closing balance on the debit or credit side. The generator totals both columns, tells you whether the trial balance agrees and shows the difference if it does not. Sort by account code or name for a tidy report, then download it as a PDF or CSV.

How to use the Trial Balance Generator

  1. Enter your business name, the date and currency.
  2. Add one row per account with its code, name and either a debit or a credit balance.
  3. Check the status message to see whether debits equal credits.
  4. Choose a sort order — entry order, account code or account name.
  5. Download the PDF or CSV, or print.

Frequently asked questions

Which accounts go on the debit side?

Assets and expenses (and drawings) normally have debit balances. Liabilities, equity and income normally have credit balances.

If my trial balance agrees, are my books correct?

Not necessarily. A trial balance does not catch errors that affect both sides equally, such as an entry posted to the wrong account or omitted entirely.

What does a difference that divides by 9 mean?

A difference evenly divisible by 9 often points to a transposition error, such as 54 entered as 45. Check figures with swapped digits first.

Can I enter negative amounts?

No. Enter the balance as a positive number on the correct side instead of using a minus sign.
