Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between gross profit and operating profit?
Gross profit is revenue minus the direct cost of the goods or services sold. Operating profit (EBIT) then subtracts operating expenses such as salaries, rent and marketing.
How is tax calculated?
The tax rate is applied to profit before tax. If there is a loss, no tax is charged; the tool does not model tax credits, deferred tax or carried-forward losses.
Should I enter expenses as negative numbers?
No. Enter every amount as a positive number; the statement subtracts costs and expenses automatically.
Is this statement suitable for filing?
It is an estimate-level summary for planning and discussion, not an audited financial statement or professional advice. Statutory accounts must follow the applicable accounting standards, so have an accountant review anything you file.
