Image Compressor

Compress one photo or a whole batch without uploading anything. Choose a quality level, optionally cap the width or height, and keep the original format or switch to JPEG or WebP for bigger savings. Every file shows its before and after size, the percentage saved and a side-by-side preview.

How to use the Image Compressor

  1. Set the quality slider (60–80% suits most photos).
  2. Optionally enter a maximum width or height to scale large images down.
  3. Choose Keep, JPEG or WebP as the output format.
  4. Drop your images and press Compress images.
  5. Compare the sizes and download each file, or download them all one by one.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my PNG barely get smaller?

PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect on it. For photos saved as PNG, choose JPEG or WebP output, which usually cuts the size dramatically.

Is metadata kept?

No. Re-encoding through the browser canvas drops EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location, which also saves a little space.

What happens to animated GIFs?

Browsers can only re-encode the first frame, so animated GIFs are saved as a still PNG, JPEG or WebP image.

Why is the compressed file bigger than the original?

Some images are already heavily optimised. The tool flags this and offers a button to download the original instead.
