Image Resizer

Change the dimensions of a photo precisely. Type a width and height with the aspect ratio locked, scale by a percentage, or pick a preset such as an Instagram post or YouTube thumbnail. When the new shape differs from the original you choose whether to letterbox, crop to fill or stretch, and large reductions use step-down resampling for sharper results.

How to use the Image Resizer

  1. Drop an image to see its original size.
  2. Enter a width or height (the other side follows when the lock is on), use a percentage, or pick a preset.
  3. If the aspect ratio changes, choose Contain, Cover or Stretch and a padding colour.
  4. Pick an output format and quality, then press Resize image.
  5. Preview the result and download it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between contain and cover?

Contain fits the whole image inside the new size and fills the gaps with padding. Cover fills the whole size and trims the edges that do not fit, keeping the centre.

Can I make an image larger?

Yes, up to 400% or any pixel size within browser limits, but enlarging cannot add detail, so the result will look softer.

Is there a maximum size?

Browsers limit canvases to about 16.7 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side. The tool tells you if a size is too large.
